Thanks to the Democrats nuking a senate rule in 2013, the GOP needed only a simple majority to move to vote on the nomination of Rex Tillerson for Secretary of State.
The motion to invoke cloture passed Monday, 56-43. Three Democrats — Mark Warner (VA), Heidi Heitkamp (ND) and Joe Manchin (WV) — voted yes, and one Democrat — Martin Heinrich (NM) — abstained. Even if all four senators had voted no, the motion still would have passed.
The issue is this Democrat resistance isn’t off to a great start. Fuck all four of those senators for not resisting the Trump agenda with the same vigor that the GOP resisted Obama agenda.
It’s also telling that Heitkamp, who once said the Dakota Access Pipeline fight wasn’t winnable, voted yes to the cloture motion. After all, the DAPL — which will bring in only a handful of permanent jobs after its construction — is now just waiting for State Department approval.
It doesn’t matter that the vote would have passed regardless. Remember their voting records, weigh it all together and hold these fucks accountable when they’re up for election.
